I work with clients to determine the course, content, and length of
therapeutic counseling. I believe it is important to work with the individual in processing thoughts, feelings, behaviors
or attitudes that derail them from meeting their life goals. Sometimes this includes exploring the client's past together,
in order to better understand how previous experiences or relationships influence the client's present life and their
future ahead. However, I recognize that your purpose is to focus on current life goals - and to find whatever stops you from
reaching your goals.
Thus, philosophically I consider psychotherapy
to be your personal journey. Although I provide assistance, informed by my training and experience, you will determine the
course, direction, and length of your journey. In this manner, you and I will collaborate and I will support you, while you
reclaim what may appear to be lost or unavailable to you at present. My focus is to help you better understand what interferes
with finding happiness or solving problems, and to identify options for achieving more control and direction in your life.
Experienced with a wide range of issues - including anxiety,
depression, relationships (including GLBT issues), and abuse - I have worked with individuals (adolescent and adults) from
a wide variety of cultures, and individuals engaged in many different jobs or careers. I bring the passion of my heart and
the richness of my education and experience, with the complexity of many individual life journeys to work with each and every
one of you.
Additionally, I am near completion of a PhD in Clinical Psychology, which will enhance my practice,
knowledge, and profession as Dr. Paula L. Ehrmantraut-Myrup. Stay tuned for this important professional update.
